INTERROGATION WITH LANDMINE MARATHON!!!
Wednesday, April 28, 2010Underneath the hotlamp in the Interrogation Room today... Bassist for Landmine Marathon, Matt Martinez! Matt and Co. are use to the heat since the band hails from Arizona. Matt checked in to update us on touring, life at Prosthetic Records and getting group tattoos. Landmine Marathon's new album, Sovereign Decent is out now and is an absolute face ripping, skin shredder! Pick up an copy for mom. Mother's Day is coming up! Oh and Matt, let Grace know the Syndicate is down with the Wu Tang...being from Shaolin and all. Killa Bees on the swarm, ya heard?!You guys just played South By Southwest. How was it? Was this the biggest event the band has played and how does it rank in your career so far?
South by Southwest was awesome. There were thousands of people and bands in town from all walks of life, all on hand to perform or see music from around the world. From a logistical standpoint the fest is a nightmare. There is limited parking and loading/ unloading capability so you end up carrying gear from show to show. It ended up being a good workout. The shows that we played were awesome… we played a couple of day shows and a night time “official showcase” for Prosthetic Records. We played with a ton of amazing bands; Book of Black Earth, Salome, Dark Castle, Withered, Coffinworm, Trash Talk, Torche… I could go on. I would say that SXSW was the largest event we have been involved in, but in regards to the largest show we have played I would have to say it would be a toss-up between last years’ New England Metal and Hardcore Fest or Scion Rock Fest, which was nothing short of amazing.
Its been documented that LM is very DIY. How has it been at Prosthetic Records? I'm sure their support is allowing you guy to focus more on the music rather than the everyday business of running a band.
Prosthetic Records has been great to us. I think they really get how we like to do everything. The progression of the band has been very natural and organic, we still run most of the business aspects of the band, booking our own tours, selling and distributing our own merch. Prosthetic has killer distribution and advertising power, they are definitely getting us noticed on a different and much bigger level.
Do you guys give Grace shit for being on the cover of Revolver's Hottest Chicks in Metal issue? Does she get stalked by some loonies out there?
We love Grace like a sister and totally support her decision to do things like the HCIM. The decision to do this was entirely in her hands, if she was not comfortable with it we had no problem with her declining it. There are some crazy fans out there, but I wouldn’t say stalkers. We are definitely like four overprotective brothers to Grace, so STALKERS BEWARE!
Shenanigans. What type do you guys get into while on tour?
Without incriminating anyone, I would say we get into the normal band shenanigans; Fireworks, alcohol and hotel bibles torn up and covered in blood!
I read in a past interview that all the members of the band have the same tattoo, is that true?
We all (well one in progress!) have a tattoo of the planet earth being stabbed with a dagger and covered with a banner that says FTW, and to clarify that means Fuck The World. We are sick of all this internet lingo attempting to change the anagram to For The Win!!! The artist is an AZ artist named Jenna Lee at a shop called Black Lantern, she rules!
If we could go down the line of everyone in the band, you're trapped on an island, it has a cd player, but you can only have one album, what would it be?
Matt: Black Flag- Damaged
Grace: Wu Tang Clan- Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Mike: Carcass- Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious
Ryan: Rorschach- Protestant
Dylan: Iron Maiden- Live After Death
Which leads us to the next question, who are your biggest musical influences?
Ahhh the list! There are so many varying influences that cross metal punk and hardcore. Here is the short list off the top of my head: Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Morbid Angel, Deviated Instinct, Terrorizer, Born Against, Infest, Carcass…
Finally...when are you guys playing NYC!?!?!
We will be touring the US in July and NYC (Brooklyn and Manhattan) is definitely part of the plan!
There you have it folks. Real answers from a really good band. Be sure to check out Landmine Marathon's new album, Sovereign Decent, available for download and at stores now!
